I notice you don't allow alcohol. Can we bring our own?

Alcohol is not allowed on the grounds.  Al Rumsey, the master of the house in 1835, did not drink and made a request that upon his death his estate be used to help the wayward sailor.  We carry on the tradition of helping veterans and others that suffer from substance abuse.

The ballroom is approximately 2000 square feet with a seating capacity of 100 (most comfortable with 75 that allows for a seating area around the fireplace).

Who performs the setup and teardown of the tables?

If you choose the standard layout with the tables and chairs they will be provided.  If you choose to have alternative seating provided by a third party, the renter is responsible for making the arrangements and set up.

What about decorations?

The renter will provide any personalized decorations.  All decorations that you add to the space are your responsibility to remove.  Anything left  behind after the rental period will be discarded.  The Rumsey Ballroom is a historic site and the building cannot withstand the use of staples, tacks, nails or anything that will deface or damage the walls.  Due to the age of the building as well as fire regulations, no candles or open flames are allowed in the building (except for the fireplaces).

Will I have time to decorate?

The standard wedding hall rental is based on a 4 hour event rental with 1 ½ hours to decorate and 1 hour for clean up.  We can accommodate most of your needs.

Do you provide catering?

We have a preferred catering service that can provide a variety of services and menu items.  They can provide buffet meals or a formal sit down dinner.

What about a public address system or music?

For a moderate charge we can provide a public address system for announcements or music.  The system has a handheld wireless microphone, a lapel microphone and an input for ipad or other device for music.

Is there a changing area for the bride and groom?

For a small charge the bride and groom can each have a dressing room on the second floor.  The bride’s changing area is located at the top of the antique grand staircase with a newly remodeled bathroom next door. There is a door on the second floor that will separate this area from other rooms and a private entrance to the ballroom.   The groom’s changing area has a bathroom located at the base of the servants stairs and a private entrance to the ballrooms.
